Thank you to Lynne Deninger, AIA LEED AP, Laura Rushfeldt, Ellen Perko, and their teams for creating this great event and for hosting. It was a a walking tour of women-designed spaces in downtown Boston starting at CannonDesign and ending with a reception at CBT Architects' office. Yesterday was International Women's Day and the Boston Society for Architecture's Women in Design Committee hosted a celebration titled 'Women Taking Up Space'. I won't try to convince any SW fans that they are working with outdated tech, as I know personally how stubborn a SW fan can be, but to those who are considering a change, there are much better alternatives for a lot less $$$. With the same enthusiasm I used when trying to convince my previous team to move away from SolidEdge, I attempted to convince my new team to move to SolidEdge. I have spent most of the past year learning work-arounds and quick fix solutions to issues in Solidworks, each day reminiscent of the time I had used SolidEdge. Any user of Solidworks will understand this. And the errors! Oh the errors! A simple change to a single part and all the mated relationships in the entire assembly were broken. Needless to say, the first few weeks re-adjusting to Solidworks was a nightmare.

My excitement soon dwindled to frustration. I was so excited to get back to using the King of all CAD. I started a position with a different company that used Solidworks. These attempts at moving away from SolidEdge were futile.įast forward a few years. However, I still maintained the belief that Solidworks was the better program and often attempted motivating a change to Solidworks. With time I became comfortable with the synchronous environment and in turn started mastering SolidEdge. The synchronous tech stumped me as my brain was hard-wired by the repetitive narrative I was exposed to in lectures: 'Fully define your sketch.' The easy nature of the program was unnerving so I stuck to the ordered, history-based environment I was used to. Upon entering the workforce I frustratingly had to learn how to use SolidEdge. It was great to work with so I quickly mastered it. Like most, I started using Solidworks while at university. It was something I believed for the longest time. I well understand the mindset that perceives Solidworks to be the superior CAD program.
